Automotive
The West Midlands has a strong heritage of automotive manufacturing. As such, we are well-placed to be shaping the future of mobility. We have impressive research centres like Midlands Future Mobility, testing facilities like HORIBA MIRA, and academic networks across our Universities that excel at developing new autonomous vehicles and future mobility technology.
Aerospace
In the West Midlands, we are working hard on the future of air mobility. The University of Birmingham is changing the way industry uses magnesium through the Magnesium Innovation Group. The Midlands Aerospace Alliance brings together industry members to share knowledge and showcase company capabilities. Our supply chains and manufacturers are able to produce advanced future mobility technologies.
Rail
The West Midlands sits in the centre of the country, and so has strong rail infrastructure connecting it to all corners of the UK. We are a centre of transport innovation and home to HS2, which has created a huge amount of opportunities for companies and helped Birmingham grow into a future mobility hub.
The University of Birmingham is also home to the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, which collaborates with companies and industry, and also works with SMEs, offering them support.
