Legally talented

Formerly a student at The College of Law’s Birmingham campus, Ms Thomas qualified as an employment lawyer at one of the region’s top law firms. She is now a lecturer, in-house and manager of the Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research (CEPLER) at the University of Birmingham.

“We’re exceptionally lucky to have such a diverse and aspirational pool of talent on our doorstep”

Ms Thomas commented.

Shaping the legal sector

Appointed during the 100th anniversary year of women being able to practise law, Ms Thomas’ presidency is a significant milestone that will lead the region to play an influential role in the future of the UK’s legal sector.

Of her appointment, she said:

“I am honoured to be leading such a prestigious organisation as the Birmingham Law Society. Our legal community in Birmingham and the wider region is dynamic and active at its core. I’m looking forward to working with our members on how we can come together and make our mark on the sectoral issues that matter”

During her presidency, Ms Thomas will be leading the Society in supporting two charities that facilitate access to justice – Citizens Advice Birmingham and the Central England Law Centre.

She commented:

“Both of these charities provide vital services to plug the gap in access to justice. By raising funds and providing a wider platform for these organisations, Birmingham Law Society can help ensure people in the region are able to access fair, affordable legal advice when they need it.”
